Dream Team?

Was the World Cup in South Africa anybody’s favourite showpiece?

Dream?

Dream Team: Do you agree with our pick of the best XI in South Africa?

No, not mine either, but there have been some fantastic individual performances.  So what would your team of the World Cup be? The line up below reflects my opinion of who performed best in their position over the 5 weeks, NOT who I think are the best players in the world in that position. I’m sure there is a lot of debate, so have a look and let us know your thoughts:

GK– Casillas

RB- Maicon
LB- Ashley Cole
CB- Puyol
CB- Mertesacker

RM- Muller
LM- Ozil
CM- Xavi
CM- Honda

FW- Fabiano
FW- Forlan

  1. For me the team has to be:

Casillas- A World Cup winning captain who performed well throughout the competition.

Ramos- An attacking full-back who can actually defend.
Puyol- Seemed to get better as the World Cup progressed. The semi-final hero.
Lugano- Suarez and Forlan took the plaudits. Lugano took no prisoners.
Coentrão- A very exciting full-back, with electric pace.

Muller- Took the whole tournament by surprise. Five goals and three assist, enough said.
Xavi- The playmaker and puppeteer for Spain. Such a clever footbal player.
Schweinsteiger- Free from the shackles of Michael Ballack. Made the Germans tick.
Iniesta- Elegant, skillful. creative. Just a few of the superlatives for the Spanish magician.

Sneijder- Should have won the Golden Ball imho. The star of this summer’s World Cup.
Forlan- Two-footed with superb technique. Scored five very diifferent goals.
